Tips, Tricks & Techniques- Coloring Tools

Adding color to your card can really make the difference, and there are great products that Stampin’ UP! offers to make this fun and easy. Besides using card stock, Designer Series Paper and ink, there are other ways you can incorporate color into your projects with these coloring tools.

Watercolor Pencils
This beautiful rainbow of colors is a perfect variety of Stampin’ UP!’s colors. These pencils allow you to get some added soft color. There are 2 different watercolor packs, each just offering a different set of colors. We love using our watercolor pencils with our Blender Pens and Aqua Painters and we’ll show you why. Here are a few tips, tricks and techniques when using the Watercolor Pencils:
1. You’ll want to stamp your images using the Memento Tuxedo Black Ink. This will prevent your image from smearing or fading with coloring.
2. Blender Pens are a great way to blur out those pencil marks and get your color into small spaces.
3. Try using these pencils on Water Color Paper and the Aqua Painter. This just gives your image a more water colored finish
4. Try layering and doing your own shadows. By coloring your initial color, blending it out, go back and add another layer of the same color, giving your image a natural shadow.

Stampin’ Blends
These alcohol based markers are personally some of our favorite to use. They give you saturated and smooth color to your card & really allow you to add effortless shadowing to your image. These duel ended markers have both a brush tip and a smaller nub end. Blends come in some of our favorite Stampin’ UP! Colors and markers come in a light and dark shade. Here are some of our tips, tricks and techniques for using Stampin’ Blends:
1. You’ll want to use your Memento Tuxedo Black in to ensure you get a crisp, sharp image. Give time for your ink to dry before coloring.
2. Make sure you use grid paper under your workspace to help absorb any bleed through your paper.
3. Storing your blends: make sure you lay these flat, not stand them up & make sure your cap is on tight, because they are alcohol based, they will dry out quickly if they are left open.
4. We like to start with the light shade first, then go back with the dark shade to add our shading. This allows you to build up your color creating a rich image.

Aqua Painters + Blender Pens

These two tools are great for lots of different things. Both allow us to give a blurred look or water color look to our colored images and allow us to add pops of color to our projects. Both work great with the Water Color Paper for extra blending ability. Here are a few of our tips, tricks and techniques for using the Aqua Painter and Blender Pens:
1. While your ink pad is closed, give it a little squeeze to transfer some of the ink to the lid of the ink pad. You can now use this to dip your pens into and pick up color. You can also use the ink refill for this.
2. Make sure you are using the Jet Black Stāzon Ink Pad to make sure your stamped image doesn’t bleed.
3. Using the Watercolor Paper from Stampin’ UP! will help absorb that extra water but leave behind your color.
