Embossing Paste and Masks are a fun way to get some texture on your cards. Available in white or shimmer, this paste is applied to your cardstock using these patterned masks to help create unique backgrounds for your cards. Here are a few tips, tricks and techniques we’ve discovered while using this Stampin’ UP! product.
This paste dries quickly, so while you’re working on the rest of your card it dries without slowing your process down. It also allows you to build up texture until you get the look you’re going for. My favorite pattern to use is the brick wall.
Here are some of our favorite Tips, Tricks and Techniques:
1. Try adding ink to your paste! Scoop out a small amount of your paste and put it on your Silicone Craft Sheet, add a few drops of your favorite ink color & mix together before applying to your card. This gives your card texture while coordinating with your color scheme.
2. Do a rough application, this simply means don’t shoot for perfection. The bricks look really cool when they are partial & the clouds look more natural when some are thicker than others. You can always layer on more paste if you don’t like the way it turns out.
3. Add a piece or two of washi tape to hold the mask down. This can get a little messy and you’d hate for the cardstock to move around on you. By applying a few pieces of tape across the mask and your cardstock you can secure them both in place for a quick and clean application.
4. Start applying the paste in a downward angle, this will help make sure that your mask doesn’t shift and avoid paste getting under the mask where it doesn’t belong.
5. Clean before it dries! This paste dries really quickly, so you’ll want to clean your supplies and work space right after using to avoid it hardening on your knives and the masks. We like to keep some baby wipes within reach to help with a quick clean up.
