Punny Cards

Meet the Suite: Whale Done Bundle

Whale Done was by far one of my favorite suites from the 2020-2021 Annual Catalog and I am back with more card ideas! One of my cards is primarily made using DSP, and my second uses a really cool water color technique that I learned from Sara Douglass during an On Stage presentation. Keep reading to see how I made these “turtle-ly” cute cards!

I love these “whale-ly” cute sea creatures and it was so fun to create these cards with their punny sentiments. For these cards I focused on the turtle and whales, I also used the same basic colors, Just Jade and Pretty Peacock. These colors pair so well together and are pulled from the DSP pack.

Let’s start with my turtle card. Layers of Pretty Peacock and Just Jade make up my base. I used a layer of DSP with seaweed, this helps add some texture to my card. I also used this fun and colorful piece of DSP for my focal point of this card with an 1/8″ larger layer of Bumble Bee cardstock behind for a fun pop of color.

I cut out the turtle from a piece of 6×6 Whale Done DSP there are a few different colors and sized turtles but this one was perfect for my card. I kept my sentiment simply by stamping my greeting in matching Bumble Bee ink and used the Banners Pick -A-Punch.

I love the way my Watercolor Whale Card. To create this background I used a technique that Sara Douglass and I am excited to share it with you. I chose to use Old World Embossing Folder for my card, and I stayed with the same colors, Just Jade and Pretty Peacock ink. To begin you’re going to ink the inside of your embossing folder. I inked the whole thing with Just Jade and just lightly tapped the Pretty Peacock at the bottom of the Embossing Folder. Spray the embossing folder with water, about 3-5 times. Grab a piece of the Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper and spray it with water again about 3-5 times. Place your paper into your folder and run through your die machine. Let it dry and there you have it!

I used my whale builder punch and DSP to cut out my whale for this card. I also used Layering Circle Dies and scraps of coordinating DSP to create some layers to my card. Finishing it off with some Pool Party ribbon behind my whale.
